MFAhate
So, I’m in the graduate program in geography, which is a good thing. A very good thing. But it seems like all of my buds (the writer-y ones anyway) are going into MFA programs or considering it, so I’m getting all weird about the fact that I’m not. And then I remember why:
1. I HATE the critique process and I question the motives of everyone involved in it. Unless they are my peeps and I trust their opinion. I have no control over what other freaks of nature are accepted into the MFA program, thus…no thanks.
2. I write weird shit and most MFA programs are not down with that.
3. I respond to the things I read on an emotional level. For serious. I’m, like, the least ‘critical’ reader I’ve ever met. That doesn’t mean I’ll read anything. I am the queen of tossing books aside after five (or a hundred) pages. I am merciless. And I absolutely refuse to read shit I don’t like. Thus, again, it’s a no go because you know I’m going to be reading a LOT of shit I don’t like in an MFA program.
Wow. I feel so much better. 🙂
